Charity spotlight...

Charity Work

Helping charities is important to us here at Keratex Hoofcare. Animal charities rely on the general public and companies like us to pay for animal upkeep, as well as welfare, education packs and of course, vet and farrier fees.
We have several ongoing commitments to provide charities with hoofcare supplies and are always looking for ways in which we can help.

In late 2005, the managing director of Keratex Hoofcare flew to Morocco, where he met with vet and ‘Horse’ magazine columnist, Michael Crane. Michael works for animal charity SPANA (Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad) and accepted Keratex’s offer to help with the provision of equine hoofcare products. The animals we saw in Morocco were worked for hours each day, often carrying huge loads. In the main, their owners are devoted to their animals, but are unable to give them the care and rest they so desperately need. SPANA offers a free of charge health check clinic and will issue medication or products – such as Keratex Hoof Hardener or Keratex 3P Hoof Repair - when necessary, enabling these animals to lead a happier and more comfortable life.

Safe Haven for Donkeys

We recently sent a package of our products out to Israel, to the Safe Haven for Donkeys charity, which was founded by ex-air hostess Lucy Fensom.

Redwings Horse Sanctuary

In January 2006, we also donated a ‘charity pack’ to Redwings Horse Sanctuary in Norwich, UK. This included some of our most popular products: Hoof Hardener, Hoof Gel, Mud Shield Powder and our Feed Supplement.

Scientific Exploration Society

We also sent products out to Ethiopia with the Colonel John Blashford-Snell of the Scientific Exploration Society for use on pack mules.

We make regular contributions to animal charities in the hope that one day soon, the world be a nicer place for the animals we share it with, who too often have suffered pain, exhaustion or neglect at human hands.

The following products have been sent to charities for use on equines:

Keratex Hoof Hardener

Keratex Hoof Moisturiser

Keratex 3P Hoof Repair

Keratex Feed Supplement for Hooves

Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land (SHADH)

Keratex made contact with SHADH - which has its headquarters in Sussex, UK - in December 2005, after reading about their work in a newspaper at the end of 2005.

We spoke to Wendy Ahl, who co-ordinates deliveries to Haven manager Lucy Fensom in a small Israeli town. Lucy and her team, who recently won support from the Brooke Equine Hospital. We were so impressed with Lucy’s work.
